United Peoples' Freedom Alliance (UPFA) members who were protesting in the Well of Parliament yesterday called Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva a 'sub-contractor' of the government.

Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva was not seen among all the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP)... ... and UPFA leaders including former Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne, Opposition Whip W.D.J. Seneviratne, Susil Premajayantha and Dinesh Gunawardene who were associated with the protesting MPs after the House was adjourned. Asked about his absence and whether he signed the letter, which was meant to be sent to President Maithripala Sirisena, those who were protesting said he was 'missing in action'.
They said even those who are currently holding ministerial portfolios in the incumbent government had signed the letter but de Silva had not shown any interest in signing it.

"He should be here with us today but he fled the scene. The opposition leader is a contractor of the government," Kalutara District MP Kumara Welgama said while other MPs corrected him saying, "No, not a contractor but a sub-contractor."
De Silva was at the Party Leaders meeting chaired by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
