Assistance provided for livelihood development of Northern people

An event providing assistance for the livelihood development of the northern people, was held recently at the Jaffna Vembadi High School. Chief Minister Justice C.V. Wigneswaran participated as the Chief Guest.
Northern Provincial Council Chairman C V K Sivagnanam, Provincial Councilors Vinthan Kanagaratnam, Chief Secretary, Northern Province A. Paththinathan, Secretary to the Chief Minister S.Thiruvakaran, Trustee, Colombo Mayoorapathi Temple, Proprietor of Colombo's Nithyakalyani Jewellery and Business magnet Neelakandan, participated as guests of honour. Under the Chief Minister's Special Fund, 22 bicycles were donated to school children and 5 sewing machines with 3 bicycles were donated for self-employment.
Trustee of the Colombo Mayoorapathi Temple donated Rs. 50,000 for the development of the Araly Community Service Center. The proprietor of Nithyakalyani Jewellers donated a laptop to a Jaffna University student. Thavayogarajah of Colombo donated Rs. 50,000 for the development of the Mannar Star Eagle Sports Club. The Chairperson of "Manithaneyam" Foundation Kailayapillai donated Rs. 50,000 for surgery to be performed to a school girl's hand. 150 school children from low income families received school material, such as schoolbags, shoes, exercise books, etc. Dry food coupons were issued to the internally displaced people of Mallakam, Konapulam and other camps.
To mark the Tamil and Sinhala New Year, the Chief Minister donated a set of school material and clothes to women headed families in Delft, Kayts and Velanai divisions. Provincial Councilor Vinthan Kanagaratnam received the packs from the Chief Minister to be donated to the people.
