Review of election results

The United National Party (UNP) has secured majority seats after obtaining some 5,098,927 votes (45.66%) at the General Election 2015. The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) obtained some 4,732,669 votes (42.38%) and managed to secure 83 seats out of all districts.  


The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) secured four seats after obtaining 543,944 votes (4.87%), while the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) secured 14 seats after obtaining some 515,963 (4.62%) votes.


The Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) secured one seat after obtaining 33,481 votes.

Meanwhile, Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary Ven. Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thera’s Bodu Jana Peramuna and Sarath Fonseka’s Democratic Party (DP) have failed to secure any seats.


Speaking on Tuesday, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said: “The majority of this country have voted to consolidate the gains of the 8 January revolution.”
can be done easily- please do not favour any regions in the island do not give preferential laws treatment to any regions in the country we are with you then Thats the only division we had.there is no other reason to be divided- note from care lanka AND DO NOT TOUCH Manhida- Gota and all ranaveerswaru who save the nation. We have no personal diffrence whats so ever only on national division where we will fight till death


“Now it is no longer necessary to be divided as winners and losers. We need to unite as one family to create a new political culture in this country.”
