PM Modi meets Sri Lanka Tamil leaders

Colombo, Mar. 13 (ANI): Prime MinisterNarendra Modi on Friday met Sri Lankan Tamil leader R Sampanthan to discuss national questions pertaining to the Tamil people.


"All matters of relevance were discussed, particularly the unresolved national questions pertaining to Tamil people which cannot be delayed any further," said R Sampanthan after meeting Prime Minister Modi.
Meanwhile, a leading Tamil group in Canada has reportedly urged the Prime Minister to put pressure on recently elected Sri Lanka President Maithiripala Sirisena to resolve the ethnic issue in the island nation.
Earlier in the day, Modi said that the recent presidential in elections in Sri Lanka, in which Maithripala Sirisena emerged as the winner, beating the incumbent Mahinda Rajapaksa, reflected the voice of the people of the island nation, aspiring for reconciliation and unity. (ANI)
