The Forum of the UPFA members of the Provincial Councils and Local Bodies will attend the ‘Bring Back Mahinda’ rally in Kandy today (06) in defiance of the ban imposed on SLFP elected members attending such meetings.

The forum comprising UPFA elected members told a media conference in Kandy yesterday (05) that ‘none’ could stop their presence at the Kandy meeting.

They would not only attend the meeting at the Kandy Central Market but also bring people to the event, a spokesman told a media briefing at Devon Hotel.

"We will not stop our campaign until Mahinda Rajapaksa is made the Prime Minister ousting UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, who has not received any mandate from the people," they said.

Western Provincial Council member Lalith Ellawala said President Maithripala Sirisena had been elected President not to make Ranil Wickremesinghe Prime Minister. He would be replaced by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa who still commanded the support of the masses.

North Central Provincial Council member Sarath Ilangasinghe said people in large numbers would join the on-going campaign to bring back Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister.

Local politicians who are members of the forum Nimal Piyatissa, Ranjith Gunawardana, Upul Ranjith, Samanalie Sakalasuriya, Lakshman Gunawardana, Lalith Warnakumara, Indika Anuruddha, Yasapala Koralage and Manel Bandara also spoke at the press conference.
