A large number of MPs, including Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) politicians, are set to support the movement to bring former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the next United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Prime Ministerial candidate, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) said.

As part of the movement spearheaded by the PHU, the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP), the National Freedom Front (NFF) and the Democratic Left Front (DLF), a large number of SLFP politicians will get on stage in support of Rajapaksa's return at the next rally to be held in the Ratnapura Town at 3 p.m. on 26 March, General Secretary of the PHU and Western Provincial Councillor, Udaya Gammanpila said.
He added that the challenge before President Maithripala Sirisena was, how to win the trust of SLFP members, as he had become the Leader of the Party after working towards its defeat.

"Rajapaksa is receiving blame for the efforts of our four parties. Is Sirisena with the SLFP or the United National Party (UNP) who brought him to power? The UNP believes that he will work towards their victory at future elections. Will he support both the UNP and the SLFP? This is why SLFP members ask for Rajapaksa to become the Prime Minister under Sirisena. Sirisena must involve Rajapaksa and not attack or insult him. This is how he can win the trust of those who voted for Rajapaksa.
We do not want to contest under a separate ticket and cause divisions. The SLFP's Central Committee must decide. Although there is the possibility, there is no tradition of the Opposition Leader becoming the Prime Minister. Former President Ranasinghe Premadasa won on a UNP ticket and former President J.R. Jayewardene did not interfere, as he could place faith in Premadasa. Premadasa was not the Opposition Leader. Former Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike was not the Opposition Leader. Rajapaksa won, but former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge who left office in 2005 interferes even now," Gammanpila mentioned.

He observed that Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, cabinet spokesperson Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, Kumaratunge, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake and General Secretary of the Jathika Hela Urumaya Patali Champika Ranawaka were all issuing contradictory statements.

"The 100 day plan is not clear on what is to be done with the Executive Presidency and the same is reflected in the 19th Amendment draft bill. The New Democratic Front has no vision as they only came together to defeat Rajapaksa," Gammanpila explained.

STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN BRING BACK MR
