Gammanpila has questions for the police

Western Provincial Councillor and Leader of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya(PHU), Udaya Gammanpila stated that Police are acting with double standards and were biased in their treatment of anti government factions.
He made these comments at a press briefing on Thursday (7), adding that Western Provincial Councillor of the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) Nishantha Warnasinghe and Convener of the Joint Trade Union Centre, Wasantha Samarasinghe also protested outside the Bribery Commission but no action was taken against them. However when pro-Mahinda elements decided to protest, a Court Order was obtained to prevent that.

He also posed a few questions to Police:
"How did the President remove the former Chief Justice without due procedure? When we protested outside Parliament, a court order was again obtained to disperse us. However, a week later when Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera and a few others staged a pro government protest in the same place they were allowed to continue.

The next is the matter of the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID). Why is a Cabinet subcommittee led by the Prime Minister allowed to scrutinize and lodge complaints against suspects? How come civilians cannot lodge complaints to the FCID? Section 4 of the Gazette pertaining to the FCID indicates that complaints can be entertained by politicians. There is a filtering process. So the Cabinet subcommittee lodges complaints about those who oppose them. This violates the fundamental right of being equal before the law. However the gravest financial crime committed post-independence, was after the emergence of this government which is the fraud done by the Central Bank Governor. However the FCID has not looked in to the matter over the last two years."
Gammanpila added that 18 politicians including MPs and counci-llors and nine monks will also take part in today's (8) rally in Kurunegala
