The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) yesterday said that it was seeking the advice of the Attorney General on how to proceed with further investigations into the alleged abduction of an underage girl, Dinithi Aloka by Eksath Senaratne, son of Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne early last year.

Chairperson of the NCPA, Natasha Balendra said that the girl’s parents had lodged a complaint with the NCPA on March 21 that Minister Senaratne’s second son Eksath was forcibly keeping their daughter. Earlier on March 16 the girl’s parents urged the NCPA to help them visit her.

The NCPA took steps to set up the meeting between the parents and their daughter at the State Ministry for Children’s Affairs on March 23. However the girl’s parents had declined to turn up, stating that there was an on-going legal procedure at the Colombo High Court, she said.

Balendra said that the NCPA Police Unit had recorded a statement from the girl on the same day and she had said that she had left her home out of her own volition and that publicity being given to the incident was causing embarrassment to her.

The NCPA Chairperson said they would proceed with further investigations into the case following the response they received from the Attorney General.

Gamini Ranasinghe and his wife Indira accused Eksath Senaratne, son of Minister and Cabinet Spokesperson, Rajitha Senaratne, at a press conference early this year of abducting their under-age daughter on Feb. 14, 2014 and keeping her at the Minister’s official residence. The couple said that the NCPA had intervened at the time and got the child back for them. However, the teenager was allegedly abducted again by the Minister’s son on April 6, 2014, according to their statement to the media.
