BBS likens MS-RW regime to blind elephant; opposes national govt.

The Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) yesterday compared the Government to a blind elephant roaming in the forest while opposing the moves taken by the present regime to establish a national government in the country after calling it an attempt to guard their seats and positions in Parliament.
BBS General Secretary Galagodaathe Gnanasara Thera, addressing a press conference yesterday in Colombo, said that the minority government and the majority Opposition have to reveal to the country their reasons behind proposing a national government.
“Though the concept of the whole Parliament being the Government is an attractive idea we have to understand that it is unwise to add sugar to the dhal curry and that if we do it would create problems. We like the idea of a national government but we will only support a true patriotic national government and not an artificial national government constructed by selfish politicians because such a national government will fail to address the issues of the people and will only be a ‘dummy government’ that will dance to the tunes of the international community. Today all the corrupt politicians have come together to form a national government but their ultimate motive is to protect their ministerial posts and their MP seats,” Gnanasara Thera said.
Speaking further, Gnanasara Thera added that if the Government takes steps to establish a national government to maintain their personal sustainability without considering the safety of the country and the people, then the BBS would take the initiative and leadership in fighting against it.
“We want to know why and for whom the Government wants to form the national government. Is it to safeguard the country or to safeguard their powers as ministers and MPs? Today the Government is like a blind elephant roaming in the forest. As we can see that there are many lost, blind elephants in this Government. So we are ready to give ‘national-minded’ medicine to everybody who is talking about a national government,” Gnanasara Thera said.
At this press conference, the BBS also urged the Government to first establish the independent election commission and to conduct bribery and corruption investigations before talking about a national government while also challenging the present regime to explain the difference between racism and ‘national mindedness’ to the public.
“We ask the Prime Minister, who talks about racism a lot, to look into the racist statements made by his own MPs such as Ranjan Ramanayake, Palitha Thewarapperuma and Daya Gamage before talking about racism to others. And we kindly request him to explain the difference between racism and national-mindedness to the public,” Gnanasara Thera stated.

Gnanasara Thera says undecided on entering politics
Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera yesterday said that he was still undecided on entering politics.
He made this statement during a BBS press conference held in Colombo yesterday. Answering a question raised by the media regarding his entry to politics, the Thera said that he had received many invitations by the public to enter politics but that he was still undecided on the matter. “We can only decide on that after examining the situation that might arise in the country,” Gnanasara Thera said. |
